웃어라, 온 세상이 너와 함께 웃을 것이다

슬프고 늙은 세상은 기쁨을 빌려갈 뿐
자신의 문제를 돌보는 것도 힘겹다
Laugh, and the world laughs with you;            
Weep, and you weep alone.                        
For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,    
But has trouble enough of it's own.              

 

노래하라, 언덕이 화답할 것이다
한숨쉬라, 덧없이 대기 속으로 사라질 것이다
메아리는 즐거운 소리만 되울려 낼 뿐
근심어린 목소리에는 뒷걸음친다
Sing, and the hills will answer;                 
Sigh, it is lost on the air.

Succeed and give, and it helps you live,

크고 장대한 연회장에는
즐거움이 가득 차 있지만
우리는 각자가 홀로 되어
좁은 고통의 통로를 지나야 한다
